Many people donate their blood for a noble cause to help and save the lives of others. Blood donation is a vital part of any healthcare worldwide and it is the only way of accumulating and storing blood to meet emergency requirements.

On 9 May 2022, Kolej MDIS Malaysia embarked on a blood donation drive – “Every Drop Matters”.  The event was held at its iconic campus at Educity Iskandar Puteri that sprawls over 30 acres and accommodates a state-of-the-art infrastructure, WiFi connectivity campus wide, fully equipped classrooms, lecture theatres, computer labs, multipurpose halls, auditorium, sporting facilities, ample parking, 24/7 security and a full-fledged hostel on campus.

The “Every Drop Matters” event was in collaboration with a non-profit organisation called Young Malaysians Movement (YMM) and with Hospital Sultanah Aminah Johor Bahru.  Organised by the Students Community Service, Music Club and Photography Club of Kolej MDIS Malaysia, the blood donation drive turned out to be a success.

This event, promoted to Kolej MDIS Malaysia’s students, staff as well as the public via its social media platforms managed to garner more than 200 visitors in spite of the long festive holidays.

One of the first few that arrived early was the CEO of Kolej MDIS Malaysia, Professor Hassan Ali. “The gift of blood is the gift of life by generous donors,” he said while playing a role in this blood donation drive.

The students’ initiative also extended in organising a cultural exhibition, charity sale booth, food stall, mini games section and a photo booth to capture an Insta moment.  The mini concert had guests tapping their feet to the music as the students displayed their many talents beyond their academic capabilities.

Visitors were thrilled by the impressive Chinese yoyo performance that involved meticulous skill and coordination. “I cannot do one third of what the students did with a YoYo.  It looks so easy but trust me, it is definitely a skill that you need to work on,” said En Abdul Hakim, a lecturer with Kolej MDIS Malaysia.

The event ended at 4pm with almost 60 bags of blood donated. The event organiser was so glad that many came forward to be someone’s lifeline. Those that were not qualified to donate did not go back disappointed but rather, stayed back to support the activities that the students planned.
