Celebrating the festivity at its sprawling campus in the hub of the fully integrated education hub- EduCity Iskandar, Johor, Kolej MDIS Malaysia ushered in the Year of The Rabbit with spectacular lion dance performances.
As part of the Lunar New Year celebration, the sound of 20 feet long firecrackers filled the atmosphere along with pulsating beats of drums and cymbals from the lion dance troupe. A kaleidoscope of sights and sound captivated students, academics and staff.
The lion dance, an essential tradition of the Chinese New Year, symbolised good fortune and success for the upcoming year, making it the perfect way to begin the Year of the Rabbit. Steeped in rich culture and tradition, celebrating one of the major festivities in Malaysia was a great way to showcase the richness of our customs to our international students. Malaysia comprises a blend of multiracial people from different races, ethnicities, and nationalities with distinctive cultures. This provides international students the opportunity to embrace the multifaceted diversity that coexists in a peaceful and beautiful way!
Furthermore, Malaysia is well known for its great variety of delicacies and cuisines, and to commemorate the festivity, a sumptuous lunch was served. The traditional “ang pau or red packet” containing a monetary token was distributed to those present during the celebration to signify a year of good fortune and blessings.
As part of creating a vibrant campus community amongst local and international students, Kolej MDIS Malaysia’s Student Representative Council takes the initiative to collaborate and organise such activities throughout the year.
Students at the campus have the opportunity to experience a fun-filled holistic education beyond academics. Being in the EduCity hub, they are also able to exchange ideas, leading to exciting collaborations and extending memories beyond lecture halls.
The EduCity Sports Complex is a cutting-edge facility with a 14,000-seat stadium. It includes a world-class football/rugby field, a 400-meter athletic track, an aquatic centre with an Olympic-size swimming pool, and an Indoor Arena with multiple badminton and basketball courts. Outdoor tennis, volleyball, and futsal courts are also available among the other recreational options.
In addition, MDIS has campuses located globally in Singapore, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Malaysia, providing students with an opportunity to receive a transnational education, allowing students the option to study in various geographical regions and experience diverse cultures.
